Terms of Service
The rules, in plain English.

1. What InkFirst is
InkFirst is a Matsuyama-based kanji verification service for people getting kanji tattoos. It is run by a single Japanese-native developer. The service comprises:
- Free Meaning Check: an automated check of the meaning, pronunciation, and tattoo-appropriateness of any kanji or yojijukugo, using a verified database + AI-assisted summary.
- Tattoo Ready Pack ($29): a downloadable bundle of files (actual-size PDF, HD SVG, placement preview, artist brief, certificate of meaning, cultural context).
- Expert Review ($59): the Tattoo Ready Pack plus a 48-hour personal review by the Matsuyama-based operator, with an Accuracy Guarantee.
Physical tiers (Stencil Kit, Memory Bundle) are coming soon and not yet covered by these terms.
2. Free Meaning Check is best-effort
The Free Meaning Check is provided as-is, with no warranty as to accuracy. It uses a verified database where we control quality, plus AI for natural-language summaries. We try hard to be right, but we cannot guarantee zero errors at this tier. Do not get a permanent tattoo based solely on a Free Meaning Check result. If accuracy matters, upgrade to Expert Review, which carries our written guarantee.
3. Paid tiers and your rights
Refund rules are spelled out in the Refund Policy. In short:
- Tattoo Ready Pack: full refund before download. After download, no refund.
- Expert Review: full refund before review begins. If we err during review, full refund (Accuracy Guarantee).
EU/UK consumers: by clicking “Approve & Download” you are explicitly requesting immediate delivery of digital content and waiving your right of withdrawal for that delivered content. You retain refund rights as per our policy above.
4. Your obligations
- You will not abuse the service (mass requests, automated scraping, etc.).
- You will not impersonate others or supply false email addresses.
- You will not use InkFirst output for any unlawful purpose, including but not limited to harassment, hate speech, or fraudulent identity verification.
5. Intellectual property
The kanji themselves are part of the cultural heritage of Japan and are not owned by anyone. The InkFirst codebase, design system, certificate templates, and curated database are owned by the operator.
For paid tiers, you receive a perpetual, non-exclusive license to use the delivered files (PDFs, SVGs, etc.) for your personal tattoo and any reasonable derivative use (showing the artist, posting a photo of the result). You may not resell or redistribute the files themselves.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, InkFirst’s total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or zero, for free-tier users). We are not liable for incidental, consequential, or punitive damages — including, specifically, the cost of tattoo removal, regret, or any physical or emotional consequence of getting a tattoo based on InkFirst output.
Getting a tattoo is your decision. We give you the best information we can. Beyond that, we are not your tattoo artist, dermatologist, or therapist.
7. Termination
You may stop using InkFirst at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service or violate these terms. We’ll honor outstanding paid orders before suspension unless the abuse itself is the reason for termination.
8. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by good-faith correspondence with info@inkfirst.ink will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Matsuyama District Court (松山地方裁判所) as the court of first instance.
9. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be announced on the homepage. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
